Wednesday morning
Filed in BlogThe smoke is a little less thick this morning, but I notice on the forecast that there’s a possibility of more lightning this weekend, which will doubtless ignite a bunch more fires. Visibility seems to be about the same. The whole air reeks of pine–it may be some while before I enjoy that scent again.
The humidity is rather high, with up to 50% predicted for overnight. The moisture really has nowhere to go…mother nature sure has interesting ways of keeping a cycle going. Below are the fire reports as of 10pm last night. I’ve moved the three closest ones to the top.
Iron Complex: 36 fires burning 2,910 acres; 5 percent contained.
Whiskeytown fires: Four fires at a total of 2,100 acres; no estimated containment.
Lime Complex: More than 70 fires burning 7,500 acres; 10 percent contained.
Democrat Fire: 360 acres; no estimated containment.
Donkey Mine Fire: 360 acres; no estimated containment.
Kirkman Fire: 2,400 acres; no estimated containment.
Noble Fire: More than 2,000 acres; no estimated containment.
Pine Fire: 1,200 acres; no estimated containment.
Shingletown Fire: 475 acres; 80 percent contained.
Venture Fire: 1,000 acres; 40 percent contained.
Withrow Fire: 200 acres; 30 percent contained.
Zogg Mine Road fires: 74 acres; 80 percent contained.

Redding paper’s reporting new blazes are sparking from last weekend’s lightning barrage now that the humidity’s dropping again.
That’s bad news.

Yup. Though I gather that the humidity’s rising and likely to rise overnight. We’re listening to the scanner; it’s quite interesting.

Kate told DMom about a website with a map/icon re the fires. I’m trying to get the URL. I’ll send it, if you think it’ll help you.
Congrats on the phone access, btw!
