Weathering it
Filed in Blog, EquipmentToday Don attached a device called an “Extend-a-Stay.” It’s a little metal widget that goes between the propane tank and the regulator (which turns the high-pressure tank contents to low-pressure gas for our heating and cooking); it has an attachment which can fit to an external gas bottle or a gas BBQ, etc.
While it’s been something like 80 degrees most afternoons since we got home, it certainly isn’t so warm in the mornings. I’ve been eyeing the sunlight patterns to see if there isn’t a sweeter spot with more light, but in the end I think it won’t make too much difference. Our heating is going to be on most of the time this winter, and there’s something really delicious about waking up in a toasty little cabin.
I don’t really think we’ll need the Extend-a-Stay, but it doesn’t hurt to have one. The one time when we need it, i.e. our regular tank runs out and we can’t drive the RV out of the property, is the one time we’ll regret not having it. We’ve been looking up weather patterns for the area and find that the average cold temp in December and January is about 30 degrees, with snowfall around 3-5 inches. If we get stranded, worst case we can catch a ride to the local gas station to fill up the portable. I’d really like to get hold of a solar panel before it starts raining, as well.
But even if we don’t need it, next summer, we can get a little barbecue and have some nosh outdoors with the mosquitoes. ;)
