Vallejo rest area
Filed in Dry CampingWe spent the night at a rest area just outside Vallejo. I don’t recommend this: it really wasn’t very restful. We pulled in and realized that there was nowhere for an RV to park in the rest area itself and ended up spat out the other side, unable to backtrack. A ten mile detour later, we were nestled up on the strip of land where all the big things park, including another RV and a car transporter. We also learned that big rigs can parallel park: there is something both impressive and quite disconcerting about seeing that much truck pulling in behind you with what looks like inches to spare (and is likely much more).
All night, vehicles zoomed by at an alarming clip, not far from our nest. It was noisy and the entire rig shook with every large truck. This is the Bay Area, so there never was a quiet time.
It is 53 degrees out there and the front upper window was full of condensation when I peeked out this morning. No others: just the window on the over-cab area. I guess I know why it feels a bit damp up there at times, now, and why there’s some mold.
We’re waiting for the commute to ease up. In a while I’ll put on the generator and microwave a cup of coffee. The microwave draws too much power to run off a 12 volt battery, so gennie it must be.
This is supposed to be a vista point, so I’ll go see what the vista is to be.
