Unboring

Filed in Blog

Today was not boring.

Unboring thing the first

I woke up early enough to watch the solstice sunrise, which was something special. From here on, the days will get a bit longer, and we’re over the hump for darkness and depression.

Unboring thing the second

Later, I went to finish up my Christmas shopping. On the way there, my bike ran out of gas. I didn’t quite put enough cash down the last time we filled up, so Don got a full tank and I got much less of one than I had imagined. Fortunately, bikes have a reserve tank, but still…I put 3.24 gallons into a 3.25 gallon tank. ;)

Unboring thing the third

I went to Target and shopped happily for various stuffs. I checked out happily and paid happily. I was not happy when, back at the bike, I realized that I’d left my shopping at the checkout. By the time I got back to the checkout, my entire order was gone. The next people in line had swiped it.

Target was brilliant. They just double checked via video camera what had happened (yes, you are being watched), and then told me to go and grab all my shopping, again. I had them check everything and that was it. They were down $50, someone somewhere had $50 of extra goodies, and I, while deeply embarrassed, was not short $50.

I then mailed some cards which are going to be late, got my long-craved-for chocolate orange, picked up some hose clamps, and came home.

Unboring thing the fourth

We invested in a Dyson Root 6 hand-held vaccuum. It appears to be amazingly powerful. My carpet is starting to look clean again. Don and I are taking turns to vaccuum, because it’s such a neat gadget. When I went to pick it up at the office, the box was so big that the staff gave me a ride to the rig in their golf cart. But it’s still making me giggle to think that we might end up squabbling over who uses the vaccuum cleaner. :)

The cats disapprove. In fact, Silver actually swatted it. :: grin ::

My parents, who in part funded this with their wedding anniversary gift to us, probably approve. Thanks, Mam and Dad!

Unboring thing the fifth

We celebrated solstice by cracking open a gift box containing summer sausage, cheese, sweet crackers and other posh confections and having an indoor picnic.

Unboring thing the sixth

Our breaker has probably flipped half a dozen times tonight. On one occasion, the switch that puts one into generator mode refused to switch back, as happened in the past. Unfortunately, our gas tank is only a quarter full, too low to run the generator, so switching the gennie on didn’t fix it. Banging on the switches with a screwdriver does, apparently, help.

Unboring thing the seventh

I’m going to take a shower now. Might not sound unboring, but after our recent leaking adventures, it is once again a novelty to take a shower.
