Heading to New Hogan Dam
Filed in Views Through the WindshieldLast Sunday, February 3rd, we headed out for a few days to the Corps of Engineers campground at New Hogan Reservoir. Here are a few of the things we saw along the way.
I’ll also be adding a write-up and pictures some of the other things we saw at Raven’s Roads over the next week or so.
We’re on state highway twelve, which cuts right through Lodi. On the outskirts of town industry is quickly replaced by trees and vines.
Not long after that, the countryside becomes more remote, with only an occasional farmhouse to show that there are people here. It’s not truly lonely, but the towns are small and separate. We picked up a rainbow and followed it for most of the journey.
Soon, we’re in Calaveras County, and there’s still a rainbow.
Mature trees on a hillside remind me very much of the English Lake District. Meanwhile, the sky gets more and more threatening.
Here’s the sunshine that kept the rainbow fueled. A vivid sunset that seemed to last for hours burned in the sky.
We’re about ready to catch up with the rain. Oncoming traffic has its lights on but the rainbow is still there.
Yup. We found the rain.
In fact…a lot of rain.

It took us almost three hours to reach the campground, no mean feat when you consider it’s a mere thirty miles from home. The trouble is that we overshot…twice. And after overshooting once, we were caught in the aftermath (i.e. long delays) of a serious accident.)
It was still fun. :)
