These are not the finches you are looking for
Filed in BlogSome while ago I bought a window bird feeder, to which the only birds that come are jays (even though we bought “finch mix”). And they find it a bit awkward. We left the feeder behind on our recent trip and came back to find it very depleted. So, rather than force jays to balance on a tiny shelf, I put it on the slab of concrete that lies not far from our door-window.
This morning I disturbed maybe half a dozen jays from their breakfast when I popped outside for my morning sit in the sun.
Don and I are not particularly well. I had a bout of diarrhea last night and am still churning. Don had the hot-and-cold shakes. On Monday I made my first successful meatloaf, but we are guessing that the fresh ground beef we bought on Saturday didn’t refrigerate happily due to the power glitches we had. Bummer. I wonder if jays like meatloaf?

Sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly! Get better soon, and enjoy the jays - even if they’re not finches.

Thanks! Seem to have reached what poses of normality around here. ;)
I’m loving watching the birds…and the ground squirrels who wait underneath for the spoils!
