This is a review of a campground from somebody who stayed there. I am not associated with this campground in any other way other than as a camper.

Sandy Beach County Park is one of two parks operated by Solano County. It is found across the bridge on highway-12 (going west). Its address is 2333 Beach Drive, Rio Vista, CA 94571.

Basically, you make your way to Beach Drive and carry on along the road, away from town, until you see the entrance station to the campground. I would suggest looking at a map beforehand so that you don’t end up in a maze of little streets like we did. It’s fine in a small to medium rig but you’d have a nightmare in a 40-footer. ;) (more…)

Brannan Island State Recreation Area is on state highway 160 and sits on the California Delta near Rio Vista, California. It’s easily reached from state highway 160 and is a pleasant location with mature trees, plentiful vegetation and sites that come with a fire pit and picnic table. There are no hook-ups.

The fee was $15 a night as of March 2008.

It’s open year-round, though when we went in early March part of the campground was not yet open. It was really quiet when we were there, but during the hot months (May through October) it’s apparently, and not surprisingly, much busier. (more…)

In some places the fields are just bare earth at this time.

As we traveled on highway 12 towards Terminous, the bridge looms. If you like bridges, there are dozens if not hundreds in the Delta. (more…)

Here are a couple of pictures from the road. :)

When we left Brannan Island we turned the wrong way and ended up having to turn on a narrow levee road. There was a metal-based bridge near the campground and all night we’d been hearing cars clunk and hiss their way across it–the noise is really quite distinctive.
