Sunday afternoon

Filed in Blog

I just caught up–though with not much of a margin–on my photos of the day. I’m going to try and get ahead, now, so that I don’t need to bombard you with images again in much the same way. Being offline for a third of the month didn’t really help, and neither did running out of pictures as we got settled in. ;)

There is now a third–fourth, really–complex of fires to watch, the Alps. Luckily these are in real wilderness areas. To recap, the ones closest to us are the Alp Complex, the Iron Complex, the Lime Complex, and the Whiskeytown Lake Complex. Really, the Alp Complex is just an offshoot of Iron Complex.

We are still surrounded by smoke, but today it’s been fairly pleasant. The smell is there and it’s hazy, but there’s breathable air and I even spent some time outdoors. Overnight, the Iron Complex sprang from 5% to 15% contained. Also, the water bomber that’s been promised is finally here and that will help. It came down from Canada earlier in the week and then had to go back with mechanical issues. The lightning storms that were expected and worrying the firefighters didn’t really materialize.

I’m tentatively hopeful that this chapter of the summer’s drama is starting to be over. I’m much more mellow about the whole thing than I was last week, and I’ll keep you posted.
