Shop until I drop
Filed in DomesticityAt the storage shed, we went ahead and exchanged my bike for the minivan.
Armed with a shopping list and a purple shopping cart, we went round the 99-cent store first, picking up storage items and plastic baskets and cleaning supplies–things to keep other things orderly. The idea is to never have anything other than cats loose about the hoose. This place is so tiny that even a pair of keys or a tissue can make it look cluttered.
I might sound like a neat freak here, but I’m not. I’m naturally messy and am fighting it. I’ve lived in a messy environment for a very long time now, and I don’t want it here because I just can’t deal with it any more. Do you know what I read when I was in motels? Sink Reflections, the Flylady book. I’ll review it later, because I want to read it again.
After that it was Target for the dwindling list of things I couldn’t pick up in the dollar store. I walked around the store dreamily comparing products like a newly-wed feathering a nest. In a way I am: this is a new life for both of us, a fresh start. We’re still on the honeymoon period, where everything is new and we haven’t gotten on each other’s wick yet. (Mostly. We’ve been married ten years: get real. ;)
I had also planned to food shop, but couldn’t face another line or product choice. Then I spotted a Papa Murphy’s and that was that. The family-size just barely fit in the oven, but my nice new baking tray did not.
We stayed up into the small wee hours, finding places for everything. It was almost as if we were driven to make it happen. Even in a space this small we can lose stuff and it is going to take us some considerable while to “learn” where everything is. I’m short so the higher closets are challenging for me; Don is tall and bumps into stuff. At least I can get a step stool–there’s one in the storage shed–somewhere. ;)
