The ongoing education and adventures of two rank newbie RVers

I’ve been getting to know two of the three cats who live on the property here. (The third occasionally lets me pet it, but the others are downright affectionate.) One is a leftover from the previous person who rented our space. He’s a small, black, fluffy thing who has taken to following me around, and I don’t even usually feed him. (I’ve fed him twice in the two months or so we’ve been here.)

So…we have our door open, the screen door locked. It’s dark. There’s a rattling sound and I think our cat is up to mischief. Nope. This little black cat is scratching at the screen door and would like to be admitted. So Gracie shows up and they have this conversation that goes something like this:

Scratch scratch rattle. [I say, can I gain admittance to this establishment?]

Taptaptap scratch. [Um, I don't think my humans would like that. Though you don't *seem* to have fleas.]

Miaow? Rattle rattle rattle. [Can't you think of something? Say! You're cute!]

Taptaptap sniffle tailflick. [Well.... *preen*]

We’re hosed. The cats are plotting against us and you can start a book now on whether we take on a third cat or not when we eventually move out of here.

In other news, have you ever stood outside with rain falling on your head and it being 96 degrees and glorious sunshine…and not in the tropics?

It’s weird.
