Planning is overrated
Filed in Blog, Equipment, MaintenanceWe came into Redding yesterday with a view to getting a better price on propane, and stocking up on some other things too. I knew we could get propane at the campground where we’d stayed at before, so we headed over that way. As we arrived, Don spotted a muffler/welding shop and pulled over to see if they’d weld the bracket that holds the generator firmly in place (or used to).
While he did that I called the park and found out they’d closed minutes before, primarily due to these reasons: (1) We didn’t leave home until 3pm (2) Redding’s road layout SUCKS (3) We didn’t have a map (or do, but couldn’t find it) and the GPS didn’t have the roads we needed marked.
But so what? Don came out with a big grin on his face. The bracket is welded, for a mere $10, and he has achieved what many others would shrink from attempting: To remove, have welded, and replace the exhaust manifold without actually removing the generator, and to find why the manifold shook apart in the first place, and fix that, too. :)

??? Whoot for the welding, at least. Are you two okay for missing the rest for the day???
PS — My Corvallis OR speech went well yesterday. And the ACT coordinator has been so ‘up to her eyeballs’ she’s TOTALLY dropped the ball setting up speechs for the spring. Season starts … 17 Feb, I think, if that’s a Tuesday and runs for twelve weeks, skipping Easter week. She only has 6 of the needed 12 speakers. Would you be willing/interested in speaking to the group? If so, you might get some interest going for Twist of Texas, or the other if you prefer that topic… Let me know.

We had fun. :)
I think I’m going to pass on the talk…too bad it can’t coincide with the Unconvention!
I’m glad your talk went well though. :)

Linda! I was just wondering today what had happened to you. It’s good to “see” you again my friend.

Very short summary: We went to take care of some loose ends at our old home, expecting a 2 week trip, and it took 8. About one week in our generator broke, and we only fixed it a couple of days ago. We don’t like to stay in expensive campgrounds, so most days we had no electric, which meant the internet only lasted about as long as our batteries, 1-2 hours. About a week before we left to come home our satellite dish blew over in a storm and broke. The one we bought on the way home didn’t work, but about a week afterwards Don figured out a workaround and now we’re back. Until it breaks again. :-P
Hugs,
so good to be back in the blogosphere!!!
