Leaving Brannan Island
Filed in Blog, Daily Image07 March 2008

Here are a couple of pictures from the road. :)
When we left Brannan Island we turned the wrong way and ended up having to turn on a narrow levee road. There was a metal-based bridge near the campground and all night we’d been hearing cars clunk and hiss their way across it–the noise is really quite distinctive.
Now we got to cross it ourselves–twice.
All around the area freshly-plowed fields are starting to green over with crops.

The roads typically run alongside levees which hold back the mish-mash of rivers in the Delta. If these are not suitably shored up, we’ll have a disaster on a par with New Orleans to deal with and Sacramento will become beach-front property.

We swung by Duck Island RV park with a view to staying there. However, it was closed up when we arrived (for lunch) and was a very crammed-in place which looked more like a trailer park than anywhere else. I didn’t like it, and we decided to move on after a while. Still, the entrance was nice, and they had cats, so it wasn’t all bad. ;)
