Mild frustration
Filed in Blog08 June
Outside, a perfectly aligned satellite dish is talking to satellites, chirpily. And yet technology fails us. We could not set up an account, and must wait until tomorrow. Then we went to Weaverville in search of a laundromat, and to see if we could get the cellphone signal we’d been told was up there. No dice. Sprint does not have service up in Weaverville–bah!
Weaverville is rather neat. It’s a small place, just 13,000 or so people, but it’s the county seat and where it’s “happening.” This means that it has coffee shops, restaurants, a rare wireless hotspot, and a bit of a scene. It also has plaques every few buildings. When I’m in the mood, and not encumbered with the need to go online or do, say, laundry, I’ll head up there and snarf my little heart out. As it is, we picked up a couple of snarfs just by riding along the beautiful forest roads that criss-cross this area like asphalt jewels.
There’s a brilliant old bookstore there with many nooks and crannies, with some new and some old books. The proprietor is the double of Malcolm, one of my friends in England, and he ordered the book I wanted for me.
Don and I swung by our local gas station, where at $4.75 a gallon we won’t be going save for in emergencies, but at least it’s there. We also tried to set up a satellite account again. No dice. So the lovely satellite stuff points at the sky, whispering sweet nothings in satellite-speak, and we’re still cut off until we can talk to customer service. I’m getting a little frustrated. It’s not anyone’s fault, it’s just stuff arriving on Friday and people actually having a life at weekends. ;)

The bookstore and the planned snarfari sound wonderful! Frustrations connecting via the satellite, not so much.
Missing you, dear. The deer feeding outside the rig sounded wonderful, too.
I had a mini-snarfari yesterday!

Where did you go on snarfari and how many snarflets?
I definitely miss having a lunch and snarf buddy! I’m going to have to convert some folks up here, I can tell. ;)
