Low-speed internet

Filed in Cats, Food

It’s the weekend. Consequently, the campground fills with weekenders whose sole purpose in life, it seems, is to hog the internet connection. The high-speed internet is only so when about ten people are logged in; when 28 log in all at once, it falls to its knees and we might as well go to dialup.

Don and I have taken to wandering around the campground at night. We like to look at where everyone has come from. We set out to drop off the trash, then keep going. It seems that the moon rises just around the corner from us, and there’s always something new to see.

We tried a new place tonight–Pick Up Stix Chinese “fast food.” Actually, it’s more of a franchise restaurant where they cook the food fresh for you. It’s not cheap, nor is it fast, but it’s really very delicious and you get a bunch of extras with your order like crunchy noodles and steamed rice–you can even get steamed brown rice. The hot and sour soup is nummy, but a bit too salty, and their house specialty of garlic shrimp did not skimp on the shrimp like so many other Chinese food places that I have patronized.

Don isn’t a great one for dining out, whereas I enjoy it very much. He’ll often enjoy a little indy diner where everything is served with home-cooked fries, though, and I have my eye on a place in downtown Lodi. Take-out is a treat that we both enjoy, then, and it’s nice when it’s actually good.

We miss our boy-cat, JR. We transferred him to a different vet as the first one closes for the weekend (and we’re not best pleased with them either). We’re also going to miss the (at least) $1500 that this is going to cost us. I’m still in shock over that. One of the disadvantages of this new lifestyle is that our regular vet is one hundred miles away and we don’t have any first-hand experience of any of the vets here. We had to move in a hurry and it’s a good job we did because otherwise we would have been looking at surgery for the “little” guy.

Could be worse, though. When I fell off my motorcycle yesterday I could have broken something–and I don’t have health insurance.
