It’s good to alternate
Filed in BlogNow that’s Don’s found out what the issue is with the alternator, he should be able to get the show back on the road. There’s a possibility of thunderstorms on Wednesday, and the weather is definitely cooling down, so it would be nice to button up the engine again and have it ready to roll, just in case.
It doesn’t remotely surprise me that as we come up to the date for finally containing all the wildfires, more are potentially on their way. I think that the fun of thunderstorms will always be a little bittersweet for me, now.
So saying…the last few days have been glorious. No smoke! Beautiful scenery and warmth. I’ve been doing my work indoors while it’s cool, then around 3 or 4 in the afternoon all bets are off as it gets way too hot. This means more time spent outdoors. I even hauled out my tapestry, the huge medieval one that I’ve been stitching on since Christmas 1992 (nope, not a typo). Goodness! I might actually finish the thing.
The bird feeder, modified by Don to prevent it from spilling seed everywhere (much), is very popular. There’s a whole ecosystem building up around it. The jays–two kinds at least–come and spill because they don’t really fit. Some of them have been pecking at the source, the bag (which now has holes in it and is much depleted). Today I saw a non-jay but I have no idea what sort of bird it was. Then more jays come and peck at the spillage, and then the ground squirrels clean up. Sometimes the cats even show up, but they don’t catch anything.
The mosquitos are still there, but they’re dying out. I get bitten, but it only itches for an hour at most. And they are few and far between. (But you still don’t want to go out there at dusk. ;)
