Finally, some information
Filed in BlogI couldn’t see the mountains in the distance when I got up this morning. Finally, though, there’s some information. A hotline has been set up for information.
There are two main fires, one (1500+ acres) near Hyampom, and a multiple-fire collection near Junction City. We’re affected by their smoke, but they’re a long way from us. We’re getting the smoke from Junction City, which is over 20 miles away; the other, biggest, one is about 60 miles away.
Here’s what I have:
LIME COMPLEX FIRE- (Hyampom/Salt Creek/Hayfork)- Aprox 130 Fires, 900 fire personell, about 4,000 acres. Pre-planning for evacuation of some areas (WILL POST IF ACTUALLY ORDERED)- Limedyke Fire Lookout building was lost to fire…
IRON COMPLEX FIRE- (West of Junction City/Big Flat/Big Bar)- Approx 36 Fires, 200 fire personell, about 500 acres, aprox. 5% contained, about 50% of fires are in the TRINITY ALPS WILDERNESS. Much of the terrain is steep and with little access from ground.
The Iron Complex fire is closer, but not close.
I don’t think any people have lost their homes yet.

With all this going on around you, I’m thinking this is a very good time to be mobile. Stay safe, okay?

I’m glad you’re in an evacuation-ready home, then.
There have been fierce fires up there in recent years. I always wince when Weaverville central is threatened.

Definitely! We can be out of here in five minutes if need be, and I suspect we’ll have more warning that that. It’s definitely a…unique…experience…

I went down Weaverville high street yesterday, on snarfari, and taking lots of pictures of the pretty architecture. I love the spiral staircases. I would hate to see that little town burn. It’s much closer to the fires than we are, and the air is really very thick down there.
