En route to Corning
Filed in Blog, Road TripsWe’re crossing the river now from Sacramento County to Yuba County. From here on, things are a lot more rural.

There’s just a glimpse of greenery and trees as we race past the river.

I took this picture of the little church because I thought it might be a snarf. It might yet, but I can’t actually remember where it was to look it up. ;)

Break time! Once you get out into what passes for the boonies out here, there start to be rest areas. There aren’t any more big plazas full of fast food.

We’re crossing over to Colusa County. Ooh! Ahhh!
It’s starting to feel “northy” now.

For miles, these crinkly, hard-looking hills can be seen. They are probably buttes. There seem to be a lot of buttes around here.

We stop at another rest area around sunset. We actually consider sleeping here, but the siren call of internet at Flying J is stronger. We should probably just have slept here, as we couldn’t get connected. There were mountains here.

But never mind. At least we got to see the molded pond farm. ;)

I love the country scenes.
What is a “molded pond farm”?

Augh, I’ve seen that church. Zamora or Dunnigan, mebbe? The rest area looks like the one at Dunnigan.
The buttes that you can see for miles that seem to stick up out of the valley are either called the Sutter Buttes or the Marysville Buttes, depending on who you talk to. They’re the smallest mountain range in the world. (The Wikipedia article linked seems to cover the important bits.)
Should have waved as you passed the airport. I’m about due east of it.

FancyHorse–that’s just me being silly. Everything is farm, farm, farm out there and in the middle of it is a factory that makes fiberglass pond shells. So I figured it must be a pond farm. :)

Katster–we got a much better view of the buttes this time, from the Colusa Casino :)
The church is definitely at Zamora, as I noticed better this time, coming home. Still haven’t checked to see whether it’s a snarf though.
