Dump station failure
Filed in Blog, Daily Image
I said at the start of this blog that I’d try to make this an honest accounting of the lifestyle, and sometimes things go wrong. I’m going to warn you now that if you scroll down or click through the “more” tag, you’re going to see raw sewage, so if you are squeamish, move right along. ;)
The Brannan Island dump station was full. They hadn’t pumped it out in a while, so when we came to dumping the tanks what we created was a very nasty lake full of very nasty material. You know how at the beach you run away from the incoming wave and sometimes get caught anyway? It was a bit like that as the huge puddle formed (but we weren’t caught, thank goodness). Things floated that should never be seen again.
We were very careful not to stand in any of it, and stood there laughing and going “Eww”. ;) Don pulled the rig forward a few feet so that we didn’t have to trail any of our hoses in the mess any more than they already were.
By the time we left it was starting to drain away, but we reported it to the ranger on exit and hope that nobody else got any nasty surprises that day.
