Department of can’t be bothered

Filed in Blog, Critters

We got over the food poisoning thing, we really did. And yesterday I brought home the bacon–literally. Tops Foods has locally “grown” (now isn’t that a terrible euphemism?) bacon which is about 2000% times better than anything that ever came from a brand-name farm. And at 5:30pm Don is cooking breakfast of bacon and eggs.

Still, I’m having a lethargic, can’t be bothered day. I suppose it might have to do with staying up until 2am watching a movie. But it’s also been hot and, much worse, humid. I’ve done almost nothing all day except flop around feeling energyless. All around us the fires are being contained and extinguished and we’re still suffering from the smoke.

We’re on critter and garden duty for a few days. Kerry has gone off to a festival. So twice a day we get the wonderful job of being greeted by horses, dogs, fishies, goats, dogs, cats, horses and chickens (and mosquitos). I’m really fond of the chickens. Kerry got them just after they arrived as tiny chickies and now they are making the transition from tweeting to clucking and it’s the cutest sound imaginable.

Unfortunately there are no longer six, as on their first day of free-ranging Some Random Animal With Teeth decided to see what would really happen if there were a headless chicken around here, and thus ended the life of Chicken #6. Poor critter. So the whole free-range thing is being rethought and twice a day a whole bunch of someones are really, really happy to see us. :)
