Christmas in the rig
Filed in BlogIt’s been a quiet day, in which we woke up early, staggered around a bit, made a phonecall to Scotland and talked to almost the entire clan, and then went back to bed. The next thing I knew it was 2:30, but that was fine. Some time after waking up again we dug into the gifts.
This year we’d made a conscious choice to buy things that would go away, which is how come we have a maxi-pack of AAA batteries, ten bottles of winter-special beer from independent breweries around the world, a bottle of port, another of whisky, and more candy and cakes than you can shake a stick at. My parents sent some good stuff from Scotland, too, so we now have a wide variety of nifty dish towels, I have some brilliant new wacky socks some of which feature penguins and others of which feature cows, and, at long last, a new address book.
At this point I would like to issue a shout-out to Tanita Corporation who, among other things, make good-quality bathroom scales. One of the feet from our scale was lost during the move, so when I looked up the model and contacted them, they sent replacement feet for free. This means that my scales now work again, and I can monitor the Christmas expansion carefully while confirming what I already knew–I lost about ten pounds during the move, and have kept it off due to having an overall more active lifestyle.
So, we tucked the wrapping paper away and tossed it, noting at the same time that someone else received a new vaccuum cleaner for Christmas–I cannot be the only one who sticks her trunk into the dumpster to see what other good stuff folk got on Christmas Day. ;) Eventually, some time after my digestion emerged from under the weight of Cadbury’s chocolate and mince pies, I rustled up a simple but yummy Christmas dinner: meatloaf, brussels sprouts and spuds with butter, salt and pepper. And real Christmas cake with real hard frosting from Mr. Kipling, who makes “exceedingly fine cakes.”
Somewhat after that we found a need to recline on the sofa and not do much of anything, really. ;)
How was your day?

Oooh, Linda - I’m so jealous you had Xmas cake w/Mr. Kipling icing!! :) I saw Mr Kipling mince pies in a British store the other day here in San Diego… didn’t think they were worth 3x the price though! LOL But I did get a bunch of crackers (poppers) to enjoy at dinner.
Ty and I had a blast on our first “mobile” Christmas Day - we planned to be in San Diego to hang w/friends… our “chosen” family . Enjoyed mimosas in a.m., potluck lunch at church, then big group for dinner. Much fun. Gr8 to come back to cozy home tho. Love the mini-tree & lights.

I have one package (two small slices) of cake left. If you want to email me an address, I’d be happy to pop them into the mail for you. Can’t imagine they would arrive intact, but I could try. *grin*
Let me know–I’ll hold off for a couple of days but after that all bets are off. :)

Hee hee - you are so thoughtful. I think I’ve had my fill of cakes ’til the next Holidays, so I’ll take a rain check. Many thanks tho!!

* grin * I can relate to that! I went a bit overboard in Cost Plus when I was there. ;)
