Brannan Island SRA…again
Filed in BlogWe got here late last night–around ten. The tire-ing saga continues.
We spent yesterday morning and afternoon doing research, backups and other maintenance over a wireless connection. After a while we tootled down to the storage shed and tried to make the gunk in the compromised rear tube seal while going through our stuff on the assumption that we would soon be leaving it behind. I sat there and contemplated all the boxes and felt rather sad.
The hole refused to seal, so we figured we’d add more fix-a-flat and ride the bike to settle it in. We did that, and by the time it got to the post office the tire still had air. By the time we got to the gas station it also still had air. And then, by the time we had to stop for a boat to pass through via a swing bridge on highway 12, it had no air. Sigh!
We pulled over at a nearby resort and added air and gunk. Then we made it to Brannan Island and lit a fire and looked at the fantastic stars and remembered why we were doing all of this again. :)
This morning I went for a walk. It felt good to stretch my cramped muscles. We were last here in March, I think, and now they’ve opened the second campground, probably just this last weekend. The trees are in full leaf, some are blossoming, and the river runs blue as always.
We had the place more or less to ourselves; it gave us a bit of time to relax and figure out our next move, since I woke up to a completely deflated and unhappy-looking tire. We definitely goofed by not double-checking the inner tube for new and interesting leaks, but that’s okay. It’s kind of funny.
