Bogged down

Filed in Blog

A month or so ago, our toilet stopped flushing, and we’ve been dumping cups of water down to flush ever since. Don tried to fix it…even had it taken apart, but he needed a specialized tool to make that work, and was not able to. We figured that the manual flushing would work fine. It did.

But now, the toilet hole, the one that slides open to let, um, material go safely out of the way, is jamming. If we step on the pedal just so, it will slide maybe a third of the way open. Not to be too graphic, but for certain functions, I’ve started visiting facilities outside the RV.

This will not do.

The mechanism is old, and corroded. It is time for a new toilet. Thus, we are currently most of the way to Camping World, taking a day “off” the storage shed, which is doing rather nicely, thank you. They have some loos on sale.

As to other news, well, I’ve been looking into Verizon cellphones as that’s the only one that works up in Trinity. Satellite telephony leaves, alas, too much to be desired. I’ve had steady internet from our arrival last night until checkout time, which at this particular campground is 2pm and thus feels like being on vacation (most are 12, some are even 11…I don’t like the 11 o’clock ones).

We’re also looking into roof-mounted satellite, solar panels, and possibly a better generator (quieter, much more efficient). For my part I’ve been brewing some ideas regarding growing my business, which will be required to pay for all these tools. And really, all this time without significant internet has left me feeling cut off, behind, and stressed out. I can’t even hold the fort on an hour a day, let alone build it bigger.

When we got in last night, knowing that I had hours of web time ahead of me, I dived right into some design/usability work. I felt like a thirsty man in the desert, finally getting a glass of water. It felt GOOD to exercise those creative muscles, to indulge in a small but significant little project with a beginning, middle and end as opposed to the usual constantly ongoing stuff.

Today, I’m going to research my next writing project, and do some maintenance. Then, later, I’m going to buy a bog.

Good luck finding a toilet. It sounds like you really, really needed a new one!!!

I hate early checkout times, too. Why do they have them? It’s not as if they have to clean the room and change the linens for the next “guest!” (Guests in quotation marks, because in my opinion, real guests are people you invite to stay with you, and they don’t have to pay!)

Good luck with your business and your writing.

Thanks so much! I did manage to get later checkout times–apparently one need only ask. ;)
