An interesting night

Filed in Blog, Domesticity

Tonight I started working on maps that would go across all four of my blogs, linking to posts tagged with certain locations such as, for example, “lodi-ca.” I thought that would be a nifty way of turning these locations 3-D for those who didn’t necessarily know where they were, and to remind ourselves of where we’d been.

I upgraded all my blogs to the latest and greatest Wordpress tonight, and have been going back over the older posts to add these locations to the map.

The interestingness has stemmed, really, from reading back over those early RV days, some six months ago now. It was a fresh start for us, and we were utterly frazzled. I mean really, really frazzled. ;)

Last October everything, even the toilet, was an adventure. I mean, it still is, but back then it was a new adventure. ;) Nowadays, I don’t blog about every last detail. (You can thank me now.)

Now, what I’m feeling like is that I’m once again living a regular old life from inside an irregular old RV. The best times are those when we take the RV somewhere. I noticed last trip that I didn’t really feel happy coming back to Lodi. I think that our time here is all used up.

Last October, things were so idealistic, weren’t they?I still do better on the house cleaning than I used to, but that sense of being able to attain perfection is gone. I mean, the dishes pile up, the cats throw up and, it turns out, excessive Nature’s Miracle dissolves the carpet. Life goes on. ;)

The sofa is folded out into a “bed” (more accurately, a platform) and is covered in stuff. There isn’t much in here that we don’t use, but we use more than we have space for. The curtains don’t get held back by their cute little loops any more because it’s too much hassle to keep them looped when the blinds catch in them.

There’s always this weird little clash between the ideal and what happens in reality. Reading back has reminded me of things that I had forgotten and can now smile at, a tad ruefully.

Sometimes it seems that we haven’t done any of the things we said we would here. At times I even feel a little disappointed. But then reality kicks in. 2007 was tough, tough, tough. Lodi has been a great place to be quiet and recover. And we did say that we’d recover for a while before taking on any more adventures. It’s just that I think the next adventure is brewing, now.

And, like all the best adventures, we still don’t know where it will take us.
