An important business meeting

Filed in Blog

June 3rd

I’m sitting on the deck of a country store in Paradise, waiting for 3:30 so that I can make an important telephone call at the payphone. Ahead of me I see a gravel parking lot–there’s going to be lots of gravel around here, I can tell–and then trees, and black mountains with specks of snow. Everywhere you go, there are mountains.

For a moment there I thought that my laptop wouldn’t boot, but it turns out the battery just needed to be reseated. Just as well, since my cellphone won’t tell me the time without synching to satellites, and there is no Sprint service around here. Probably, I should buy another watch.

Once I get the hang of going up and down our landlady’s steep gravel drive, I’ll be a lot more relaxed. Presumably this is where I’m finally going to learn how to deal with driving on gravel. After over 12 years of riding, it’s doubtless just about time. ;)

This morning Don fetched me out to look at the deer that was munching nonchalantly on grass not far from our rig. The only sound here at night is the gentle lilt of wind chimes and the sound of the river going by.

We have landed in a good place.
