A vacation from our vacation
Filed in Cats, Domesticity, MaintenancePart 1
I’m sitting in the parking lot of Food 4 Less, listening to the rain come down. Eventually we’ll go back to the campground, but for now I’m enjoying the peace and quiet, and the novelty of typing in a different location.
Our adventure this afternoon started with taking JR to the vet again. While breaking camp we managed to break off one of the tangs on the adapter that fits between the hose and the sewer itself. Poot. So we added another stop to our errand run, hoping we’d pick it up at Geweke, Lodi’s local monopoly (they have an RV service/sales place, a car sales/service place and even a real estate place…and that’s just what I’ve spotted so far.)
But first, the vet. JR has perked up already and his bladder was better so I just left with a bag of prescription dry food and instructions to come back for more antibiotics when this lot is done. We’ll keep him on those for at least a month and hope we can get this thing beat. We didn’t even get charged for the visit because it was a quick followup–this is a quality vet both in terms of care and ethics.
So then we wandered off to Geweke where they only had the fitting we needed as part of a kit, which we didn’t need, and they didn’t want to raid the kit to take out the fitting and then replace it later, unsurprisingly. Their service is as slow as molasses, too. We did get some ideas for a different place to try, but in the parking lot Harvey would not start. It would not start a lot. Poot, poot, poot!
Eventually after Don popped the hood and used the parking brake to create a large jolt, we had ignition–but it looks like we have a little loose wire issue to deal with.
We continued the search for the replacement fitting, but the only place in Woodbridge we could find was closed and a rather daunting woman came out of the building looking unhappy with our arrival. Oh well. It was nearly five, nothing else would be open at this stage, and we went on a little road trip anyway, ambling through lanes into historic old Woodbridge which now has a checkmark on my list of places to go snarfing. ;)
Next stop: my post office box, then Target, twice, because the first time I got the wrong kind of batteries. But that was okay; I needed the exercise (we park by necessity far away, though it must be said that it’s very easy to find our vehicle in the parking lot.) And I got a new frying pan-aluminum too! Yippee!
Then there was In N Out, and just as I got back in with the burgers the skies opened and it rained shortly but sharply. Missed me, nyergh nyergh nyergh. ;)
After food, we headed up to Food 4 Less, and once again it started to rain just as I got indoors. ;)
We’re just taking a little break here, enjoying a change of scene. Reading, making hot chocolate explode in the microwave, overloading the generator…that kind of thing. Now that I’ve finished writing this post, it’s time to go back.
Part 2
We got back and it was pouring rain. What really gets me about this RVing lark is that we arrive, and there is no need to go outside if we don’t want. No suitcase to schlep, nothing. We did of course hook up most of our hookups, except for the sewer, because Don is using epoxy to try to reaffix the missing tang.
How was your day?
