A blustery night
Filed in BlogIt’s a blustery, dark night. We cleared two more carloads of stuff from the second (and final) shed today; construction has ceased, at least for now. We probably have about enough shelving to finish the job, and indeed there’s not much left. About a third of one layer needs to be removed, perhaps packed into more manageable boxes. I suspect that one or two days’ concerted labor plus time to clean and sweep should do it.
We went somewhere dark and peaceful for the night, driving here to the tune of a gorgeous sunset with Mount Diablo in the background. For the first time since we became RVers, I think we’re the only people here. Don hooked up a little portable generator we had in the storage shed. We could only run it until 8 because of campground rules, but it’s extended our web time for a good hour, which is a nice luxury.
You may recall that the regular generator’s exhaust manifold broke and while we had it welded, we haven’t really been anywhere that we could fix it yet. (You know, where they wouldn’t mind bits of generator lying around willy-nilly–typically frowned upon in parking lots and campgrounds!) So it was nice to have the other genny tonight.
The sound of wind blowing is melancholy, and always puts me into a musing frame of mind. We’ve lost the summer up in Paradise, but perhaps gained other things–a head start on Europe at Markeroni, for one, and time to think about future plans. But mostly, I’m rather sad. Rain is forecast; it should be over by the time I ride Don’s bike north with the rig, but that means the real riding season is gone and future trips will need to be picked out when weather permits, not as the mood takes us. Chances are we’ll be doing laundry runs in the rain, and that Beastie’s going to need some maintenance after being left untended all this time.
This whole episode has been one royal pain in the backside, to be frank. But, hey. All the boxes are labeled, sorted, orderly. At least we can get to the things we have when we need to. We just need some more boxes. ;)
