15… 15… 15…

Filed in Blog, Maintenance

It’s not boring around here.

I started this post by writing “for the last twenty or so minutes, a little computerized voice has been monotously repeating 15… 15… 15… and driving me slightly nuts.”

Then the breaker outside tripped. This is the second time today. The pedestal is right there in the sun, we’re having a heatwave, and it’s just not happy. Don flipped the switch back and the transfer switch–the one that’s been sick for months and is supposed to automagically switch between shore, battery and generator power–started buzzing angrily and refused to switch back to shore power after we turned the breaker back.

We were thinking we might actually have to put in the new diodes we bought at Radio Shack a few weeks ago, but Don, ahem, kinda sorta kicked the thing and what d’ya know? Like many mechanical devices, it respects a good kick. ;)

So. Anyway. Don is playing with the satellite dish we bought on Monday, trying to align it with satellites to get a feel for how to make it work, and he was broadcasting reports of signal strength over the walkie-talkie as he fiddles with the antenna outside. (Apparently, the signal strength was 15.) We’re going to need to get a tripod, though, and we’re not actually hooked up with a service provider, but it’s good to practice.

But yeah. There’s probably going to be diode replacement in our future, not to mention satellite internet. ;)
